Mugithi star Samidoh has set tongues wagging yet again after what fans are calling a “cryptic comeback” following gospel singer Karangu Muraya’s public expression of hurt over repeated name-calling during his concerts. The two celebrities, once known for their close friendship and brotherly support, now appear to be on rocky ground.
The drama began when Karangu Muraya took to Facebook to address an issue that had long been bothering him. During Samidoh’s live performances, the singer often incites the crowd with a chant that begins with “Samidoh ti maraya,” to which fans gleefully respond, “Samidoh ni maraya.” What began as humorous stage banter slowly extended to Karangu, with Samidoh encouraging the crowd to chant “Karangu ni maraya,” even when he was introduced more respectfully as “Karangu ni muhunjia,” meaning preacher.
Karangu, known for his gospel music and philanthropic efforts, finally broke his silence, saying the chants were not only offensive but hurtful, especially coming from a close friend. He expressed how painful it was to hear such words being associated with his name, particularly in public spaces where his image as a servant of God matters deeply.
Shortly after Karangu’s post made rounds online, Samidoh—currently on tour in the United States—shared a striking Bible verse on his Facebook page. Posing in front of a police vehicle, he captioned the image with Revelation 13:5-6: “The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months. It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven.”
While the post never mentioned Karangu by name, fans immediately picked up on its timing and apparent double meaning. Many interpreted it as a subtle jab, suggesting that Samidoh was not taking the confrontation lightly.
As expected, fans didn’t hold back. The comment section quickly turned into a mix of jokes, reactions, and interpretations. Some, like Jamzty Addyranks, called it “a hot comeback,” while others like Sophie Gathoni reminded him to focus on faith. Labanito Melau joked that Karangu might be at Central Police Station reporting Samidoh for the ongoing insults, while Eduh Lamar teased that it’s time to sing Karangu’s infamous song again.
Amid the brewing tension, Samidoh’s fans are also focused on his return to Kenya. After a lengthy tour abroad, the singer has announced a grand homecoming performance scheduled for July 26 at a top Nairobi entertainment venue. The event is expected to be star-studded, with artists like Tonny Young, Joyce wa Mama, DJ Dibul, Bahati, Jose Gatutura, Wanja Asali, and Waithaka wa Jane set to perform.
While the full story behind the fallout remains unspoken, it’s clear that the bond between the two popular entertainers has been tested. Whether this is just a temporary disagreement or a deeper rift remains to be seen, but fans are closely watching to see what either party says next.
