The specialized journal The New England Journal of Medicine, collects the case of a patient of 52 years who was treated at the Humanitas Clinical and Research Center, in Rozzano, Italy, a surprising and striking symptom: cried blood.

The phenomenon began to manifest itself in his house, and the man was crying tears of blood for two hours. Then, they stopped in the same unexpected way they started, and resumed several hours later.

Of course, these symptoms do not respond to any supernatural phenomenon. Doctors call hemolacria to cry blood.

It is not a very frequent phenomenon but it can be due to multiple causes, ranging from simple infections, to injuries in the ocular apparatus.

Even, it has been observed rarely in some pregnant women, it has been inferred that it could also be due to hormonal causes.

In the case of the Italian patient, the bloody tears were caused by the presence of hemangiomas, a type of non-malignant tumors caused by an abnormal swelling of the blood vessels of the eye apparatus.

Traditionally, tears of blood tears have been linked with supernatural and miraculous phenomena. The most famous case is that of Teresa Neumann, a Bavarian peasant who in the 1950s lived alleged mystical episodes, which included blood crying among her manifestations.
