” A six storey building has collapsed in Huruma next to Buthia club. KRCS Search and Rescue team responding to the scene,” the Red Cross said in a short statement.

With the heavy rains pounding the city, initial thoughts were that the collapse had been caused by the downpour, though those concerns were yet to be addressed.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Twitter account, over 150 people are out in the cold and have sought shelter at the chief’s camp.

Kenya Red Cross search and rescue team is onsite but has yet to confirm reports of any fatalities.

Nairobi County officials were initially unavailable when reached for comment.

Latest reports indicated that many people are feared trapped, possibly killed, in the collapsed six-storey building that is located in Ngei Ward in Mathare Constituency.

Three people died earlier in the city when a perimeter wall on Lenana Road collapsed on them as they shielded from the rain.
