Whatever decision or choices we are making today, we must be circumspective enough to think of the future and the consequences that will accrue to us. You can choose to close your eyes and please the NOW, yet you won’t disprove the eternal principle that we all fall victims to the mess we create. The Oriental religions call it Karma,Christians call it the principle of Sowing and Reaping. The Australian Aborigines symbolizes it in the concept ofBoomerang. So this is just a prove it is universal. Karma has everyone’s address ,yours is in the mail right now. What you grow will come and haunt or hunt you. So don’t plant thorns and thistles.
In 1998, perhaps the most famous sex scandal shook America and the world. It was that of Monica Lewinsky and President Bill Clinton. The 22 year old Monica Lewinsky whilst an intern in the White House got involved in a sexual relationship with the President that nearly brought down the most popular American president in contemporary history. The US
House of Representatives impeached the President but fortunately he was acquitted by the Senate after a 21-day trial. How did the world ever hear about this? Lewinsky, during her relationship with the President, began confiding in her friend Linda Trip. Unknown to her, her friend was recording their conversations. And that is what opened a Pandora box of trouble for the Clintons and the Democratic party at large.
This scandal has a lot to teach those of us who want to make a mark on the world.
Lesson 1: Our little sins can wreck a life-time of achievement. A small dent in our character can bring down an entire legacy.
Lesson 2: Be careful who you trust. What Clinton and Lewinsky did was wrong. But Linda Trip was also very much in the wrong for recording her conversations with Lewinsky. My personal maxim is: I’m friendly but I have very few friends. Don’t open your life to just anybody.
Lesson 3: During this scandal, many Republican politicians like House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Chair of the House judiciary committee Henry Hyde, Representative Dan Burton and Robert Livingstone (who would have become the next speaker), took a swipe at Clinton and even called for his removal from office. Later, it was discovered that all of them had previously being involved in illicit sexual affairs. Hypocrisy, right? Ooh, yes. But all of us do it all the time. We point fingers at other people’s failings whilst ours remain hidden in secret. Its hypocritical!
Be careful of the things you are doing today in the name of love, money, fame, youth, in pursuit of diverse endeavours. If you plant to please your lust and greed and selfishness, out of such you will reap destruction as people are reaping them in their marriages, relationships, careers, families, health, spirituality and society.
