Content creator and massage therapist Steve wa Massage has shared a detailed account of his mental health struggles after a period of personal and financial collapse. He described reaching a point where he felt completely defeated and unable to see a future for himself. During this time, he said anxiety and depression took over his daily life and made it difficult to function or plan ahead. He also explained that losing stability pushed him into isolation and deep emotional pain. At one point, he even returned to his rural home as he tried to reset his life from the ground up.
Steve revealed that his condition became so severe that he had suicidal thoughts and required medical and psychological support. He said his mother made the decision to travel to Nairobi and take him back to the village so he could recover in a safer and calmer environment. While there, he attended counselling sessions in Mathare and received treatment that included antidepressants and anxiety medication. He described this stage as one of the most difficult periods of his life because he felt he had failed despite his efforts to build a career. The experience forced him to confront his mental health challenges in a direct and painful way.
He also shared a controversial moment during his lowest point when he posted a video online claiming he wanted to sell his kidney. He explained that this was not a rational decision but a reflection of how hopeless he felt at the time. According to him, he believed he had reached the end of his life path and saw the video as a final expression of despair. The statement attracted attention online and later became widely discussed. He now reflects on that moment as a sign of how severe his depression had become.
His situation began to shift after he received unexpected public attention from media personality Maina Kageni. Steve said his social media content had already been circulating, showcasing his massage work and business promotions. When it was mentioned on radio, he suddenly experienced a surge in phone calls and messages from potential clients. At first, he thought the response was connected to his earlier viral kidney video, but he later discovered it was driven by business interest. He credited this exposure with changing the direction of his life and helping him rebuild financially.
Beyond media exposure, Steve emphasized the role of emotional and spiritual support from his family. He said his mother and grandmother consistently prayed for him and stood by him during his recovery process. Their support helped him remain grounded while he worked through treatment and attempted to restart his career. He described the transition from losing everything to slowly rebuilding as painful but transformative. Today, he views his experience as a reminder of how quickly life can change and how support and opportunity can create a path forward even after severe personal breakdown.
