It’s no longer news that Tecno Mobile is unveiling its flagship devices for the year in Dubai today. Tecno Phantom 6 and the Phantom 6 Plus are the company’s biggest projects so far and both devices look promising on paper. We got hold of the bigger Tecno Phantom 6 Plus last week and it comes in an elaborate package.

Well, those are quite a lot of items in the box.
Taking a look at Tecno Phantom 6 Plus
As expected, Tecno Phantom 6 Plus is quite big at a screen size of 6.0 inches. Compared with the Phantom 5, it has a better build quality and a much better design (even if it feels familiar).
In some ways, the device seems to have some design elements found on Huawei P9 and HTC 10. The unibody design looks good and doesn’t look like it’s going to easily fall apart.
The Phantom 6 Plus has its 8MP front camera aided by a LED flash.
Tecno has the Phantom branding at the bottom of the screen. The illusion of an edge-to-edge display with the screen turned off seem to give the phone an impressive screen-to-body ratio. Nonetheless, it still looks good with the screen turned on.
This is the first time Tecno is putting a USB Type-C port on a phone– a move in the right direction. At the bottom, two grills flank the USB type-C port on each side, giving the impression of a dual speaker system. However, only one speaker is present, the other is just for the microphone.
A 21MP camera (Sony IMX230) sits at the back below the antennae line. Underneath this is the dual-LED flash and fingerprint sensor.
There’s a hybrid SIM tray on the left side but this isn’t a problem since this device comes with a 64GB storage.
At the top is the 3.5mm audio port. On the right side is the volume rocker and power button.
The device runs a dark, refined version of HiOS and the display looks. We will look at sunlight legibility and other things when we do the full review.
Pricing and availability
Based on the information we got from the launch event today, Tecno Phantom 6 will set you back by 899 AED (₦77,000) while Tecno Phantom 6 Plus will cost 1099 AED (₦94,000). The pricing in Naira is based on direct conversion and this may change when the device actually becomes available in Nigeria.
This isn’t the full review. We will take a deeper look at the device later in the week when we do the full review. We will explain why it’s a great device and what’s ugly about it. You can subscribe to our RSS feed or like us on Facebook to get notified when the review is out.
