President Uhuru Kenyatta rebuked British Prime Minister Theresa May on her final day in Africa.
President Uhuru Kenyatta who jetted in from USA after his summit with President Donald Trump, complained to PM May that it had taken more than 30 years for a British PM to visit East Africa again.
But PM May was however honored by President Uhuru after she had found time and honored his invitation to the country.
Despite strong historic links between the two nations, the last PM to visit Kenya was Margret Thatcher in 1988. Kenya has seemingly turned to USA and China for investment and support.
“Yes, it has been 30 years, but I don’t want to dwell on the past – we want to look to the future,” President Kenyatta said.
On her side, she said she was delighted on her visit to Africa.
The UK is already the largest foreign investor in Kenya,” she said, adding that “as Britain prepares to leave the European Union we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition”
“Brexit is not going to dent our ability to further strengthen and deepen trade and investment between two countries … I don’t see Brexit as meaning anything detrimental to trade ties we already have.”
