10 Elachi’s Careless Mistakes That Dragged Her To Own Downfall

A special sitting on Thursday 6th September in 2018 ended up by removing Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi from power.

The sitting by members of county council in the city reached the decision after deliberating on her conduct.

Her removal was confirmed when 103 MCAs voted to sponsor her removal , 2 voted in her favor while other 2 abstained.

The united Jubilee and NASA MCAs voted out Elachi on grounds of sabotaging county assembly operations and abuse of office.

“From today Beatrice Elachi stops to be the Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly,” declared deputy speaker John Kamangu.

Previously in the day, the besieged speaker had called on the MCAs plan to remove her for dialogue and dwell on issues affecting the county.

“It is a non-issue but if you say you have their support and they are saying that you are denying them trips then you will be lying but I want to thank those who have stood with me and those who feel they have been pressured,” said Ms Elachi while in Malindi.

Elachi’s accusations

1. Elachi was also accused of purchasing speakers residence in excess quotation of sh.25 million. The property was earlier valued at sh.100 million.
2. The disposed speaker was also accused of  interfering, influencing and even threatening staff to award a tender to a close relative
3. She was also grossly mentioned on the abuse of office, since her tenure of about a year now
4. Elachi also was termed by MCAs as someone who meant to sabotage assembly’s smooth operations in the county
5. All the above amounted to conflict of interest and violation of chapter six of the constitution on responsibilities of leadership.
6. The female speaker was also accused of unilaterally taking over the functions of the County Assembly Service Board contrary to section 12 of the county governments act.
7. She was also in bad light after inviting the DCI officers to probe county officials without the approval of assembly leadership.
8. She also never consulted the board while unilaterally appointing accounting officers
9. Elachi was also accused of wrongly blowing off more than sh.0.5 million in Dubai to receive a degree from London Graduate School. She was also accused of spending dubious money on plastic surgery and knee surgery while she was supposed to be in Dallas in US ostensibly for Diaspora Women Network Conference
10. Elachi’s new degree is also termed fake bought from Nigerian fraudsters going by the name 419 scams
11. She also thought to have inflated her First Class air ticket to Texas, USA, at Kshs 1,500,000 on 23rd May, 2018.

1. The famous politician was born about 45 years ago, in Kakamega county. She first saw the light in 1973
2. She attended her primary school at St. Teresa’s Primary School
3. She later joined Moi Girls Vokoli High School for her O level studies in Vihiga county
