Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko recently handed financially struggling Dennis Oliech a lifeline when he appointed him to be among the committee members of Sports in Nairobi.

Oliech and his mate Musa Otieno would be among other 10 members who will be tasked with developing skills and nurturing sports in the county.

Below are some facts you need to know about Dennis Oliech

  1. He was born as Dennis Oguta Oliech on 2nd of February in 1985 , he is aged 33 years old.
  2. The former Harambee Stars striker was born in Mathare, Nairobi County. He stands 1.81m tall.
  3. Between 2001-2003, he played for Mathare United in KPL league.
  4. Internationally he has played for Al-Arabi with 12 goals, Nantes with 32 goals, Auxerre (25 goals), Ajaccio with 8 goals and Dubai CSC with 4 goals
  5. He scored 34 goals in 72 appearances when playing for Harambee stars between 2002 and 2016
  6. With 34 goals, he is Kenya’s all-time scorer, a record he set before hanging boots in 2016
  7. Oliech was termed by British media as one of the most wanted young players at the age of 19 years old.
  8. Oliech turned down an offer to acquire Qatari citizenship while playing for Al-Arabi
  9. Before moving to Qatari, Oliech’s move to Marsaile had been blocked by Mathare United chairman Bob Munro
  10. Ligue one giants Monaco’s sh.100M bid to sign him was rejected by Al-Arabi, who were later fined to pay US$15,000 as a compensation to his youth club by the Fifa’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC)
  11. He has won 2002 CECAFA Cup with Harambee stars as well as the CECAFA Cup Golden Boot in 2002
  12. In 2011, Oliech lived in an expensive house and drove a luxury car the Chrysler 300C SRT-8 series
  13. In 2005, Oliech was arrested after failing to appear in court over assault cases. In 2006 he was admitted in a hospital following a violent brawl during a local tournament
  14. In 2005, Oliech refused to join Harambee stars team after KFF team told him that he owned them more than Ksh.170,000 . An act he regretted and apologized
