Education CS Ezekiel Machogu released the final results of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination on 23rd November, 2023.

A total of 1,406,557 candidates sat for the exams, with Michael Warutere from Riara Springs Academy in Nairobi emerging as the top candidate with 428 marks.

  1. There were 8,523 candidates who scored above 400 marks, with the majority of students scoring between 100 and 199 marks.
  2. Two cases of cheating were reported during the exams.
  3. CS Machogu noted that this year marks the transition from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
  4. He said that the CBC is designed to produce learners who are creative, critical thinkers, and problem solvers.
  5. 1.4 million pupils received their KCPE results on 23rd November, 2023
  6. There was a unique growth of numbers, with 1.406,557 candidates sitting for the exams.
  7. This was an increase from 1.24M candidates in 2022.
  8. There were 9358 who missed exams to sit for examination in January next year.
  9. The top candidate scored 428 marks, out of a possible 500.
  10. Only 8,523 candidates scored above 400 marks.

What’s Next?


The next step for the candidates is to apply for secondary schools.
The placement process is expected to start in December 2023.
The Ministry of Education has said that it will ensure that all candidates are placed in schools within their catchment areas.
