Julie Gichuru is an media personality and an entrepreneur. She describes herself as an Afro-optimist, wife, mother, writer, entrepreneur and a philanthropist. Julie Gichuru is a household name in Kenya. She is the former host of Sunday Live at Citizen TV.

Here are some facts not known about Julie

10. She is an ambassador of AMREF Stand Up For African Mothers. The campaign aims to train about 15000 midwives in East Africa. As a mother of five children, she is passionate about mothers’ health. She is also an ambassador for breast feeding for the UNICEF.

9. She is the first African woman to receive Martin Luther King Salute To Greatness Award. This was due to her advocacy for non violence in the aftermath of the 2007 election in Kenya.

8. She is among 60 most influential African women in the world. This is according to WIE list. WIE honors women who are shining examples of excellence in society.

7. Julie is of a mixed race. Her father is from Kashmir, a boarder territory between India and Pakistan. Her mother is from Kiambu.

6. She is a lawyer by profession. She studied law at Cardiff University in Britain. She then advanced her studies for MBA at Cardiff School of Business. She opted for media after passing a voice test at Capital FM radio. Her first job was at Capital FM.

5. She is a member of Brand Kenya Board. Brand Kenya Board is tasked with the responsibility of building a positive image and reputation for the nation in the global arena.

4. She worked at food firm in Britain as part time job. This was to enable her raise money to assist his father in paying her school fees.

3. The most traumatizing moment in her life is when she lost her son in 2005. She still feels the pain to date.

2. She is married to a rich family. Her husband Antony Gichuru is the son of a tycoon Samuel Gichuru. Samuel Gichuru is the former managing director of Kenya Power and Lightning Company.

1. Julie had to quit her popular show of Sunday Live from Citizen TV. She explains that this was due to other commitments and her age. She felt overwhelmed by other responsibilities therefore running the show was difficult. She is currently managing different business foundations.
