The coexistence with peers and teachers can play a key role in the academic success of your career. If you don’t make an effort to socialize, you will lose a unique opportunity to make lifelong friends.

In the current scenario, in which as a result of the pandemic produced by Covid-19 the class modality is at least hybrid, it is essential to develop and enhance skills to be a good online or virtual partner. And this applies both at the level of school and higher education and in working life, since studying and working from home is a challenge.

To help you put shyness aside and get closer to your peers, we present 10 keys to being a good classmate, both in person and online:

1) Study

If you maintain a regular study regimen that allows you to keep up with all your classes, you will have more time to socialize with your classmates and do other activities, which in quarantine periods can be online games or simply online meetings to share.

2) Be tolerant and respectful

Not everyone has a 100% ideal place or with the best connection for their online classes. Be patient with interruptions caused by these factors, show respect for the work of others, and do not interrupt unless necessary.

3) Be nice

Always say hello, call people by name, show your concern for others.

4) Listen in class

Be respectful to your teachers and pay attention in class. Many times it is difficult to concentrate or study online, but it is important that you make an effort. In this way, you show respect for the academic who prepared the class, for your classmates and you are not left behind with the contents.

5) Take your lead

If you have leadership qualities, embrace them and don’t be afraid to present your ideas in a group. It is important that you know when to speak and listen to others.

6) Integrate others

If you see that any of your colleagues are relegated from the group, do everything possible so that they can make new friends. In the online environment, perhaps you have to pay even more attention to realize if someone is being left out in the social field or behind in some matter. You can generate instances of virtual coexistence, to share time beyond study.

7) Help others

When you see that one of your classmates is having difficulties with a subject or is simply having a hard time studying, offer to give them support classes. This is an instance that is facilitated with remote tools, with which we are increasingly familiar.

8) Be empathetic

Many times it is not enough to be present and give yourself time to accompany the other. It is important to listen to them, that they can open up and share what worries them, and that you can put yourself in their place. Being empathetic is key to being a good partner.

9) Acknowledge a job well done

Learn to recognize when one of your classmates has a good grade or passes an exam.

10) Do not close

Many times we tend to bond with a particular group and we close ourselves off from others. Don’t limit yourself to socializing only with your closest circle. If online activities are generated, participate. They are a very good instance to share and in these times more than ever it is important to do so.
