In designing the space for active learning, it is important that the education system is able to absorb and put into practice new approaches with a new look at the classroom.
The formatted spaces, with the chairs and tables in line, have been disapproved by the new teaching methodologies. Experts consider that this classroom design fails to motivate students towards active learning, motivation and creativity.
But how should we best configure the environment so that students feel stimulated?
Each learning objective and activity requires a specific environment. For example, if someone needs to concentrate, they may need isolation, but if they are developing a team project it may be necessary to arrange the tables in order to gather groups of three or four people.
5 Drawing Ideas That Can Be Used By All Teachers:
1. Think
The space is based on the idea that learning also happens individually, privileging small and intimate spaces that allow the student to have the right environment to research, analyze and reflect.
2. Discover
It is a studio or workshop, where students will experiment, explore and implement projects. It is the space of invention, in which technology should occupy a prominent place.
3. Broadcast
In this room flexibility is important, allowing moments of relaxation or meeting in smaller groups. The space resembles an auditorium, with an inclined plane so that there is easier visual contact and must be equipped with good acoustics.
4. Swap
It is the space where students will show the results of their work to colleagues, teachers and the community. It is also a place for informal meetings and exchanges of learning, being the place where all forms of learning meet.
5. Create
Specific space for team work, consisting of a small or medium size. Computers that allow conferences with people from anywhere in the world should be located in this room.
