Even though the Kenyan constitution has no place for LGBTT ( Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, transsexual and Transvestite), a few Kenyans belonging to this category have dared come out of the closet to reveal their sexuality.

This list illuminates 5 transgender, transsexual and transvestite in Kenya;

To start with, transgender is a term relating to a person whose self-identity does not conform unambiguously to conventional notions of male or female gender. [sic]

Transvestite is a person, typically a man, who derives pleasure from dressing in clothes appropriate to the opposite sex. [sic]

Transsexual is a person who emotionally and psychologically feels that they belong to the opposite sex. [sic]

1. Joji Barotrans3jojibaro9

He is perhaps the most popular face of LGBT. Joji Baro has been in the limelight one too many times for various reasons; like when he disclosed he was HIV positive.

Joji Baro who is openly gay was born male but of late he has been dressing up in ladies’ clothes and applying makeup.

Joji is also a gospel singer, a title that has rubbed homophobic the wrong way.

2. Audrey Mbugua

Audrey Mbugua courted controversy when she sued Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) for failing to change her name from Andrew Mbugua to Audrey Mbugua on her certificates.

Amazingly she won the case in a landmark ruling by the court to set precedence for other LGBT fighting for their basic rights.

Audrey was born male and even attended Maseno University where she was admitted as a male student.

Oestrogen hormones got the better of her testosterones and she decided to transform to a woman. Even though Audrey hasn’t gone under the knife to change her sexuality, she has submitted a memorandum on the 2016 Health Bill seeking sex reassignment therapy to be permitted in the Health Bill.

3. Binyavanga Wainaina

He’s the most successful member of the LGBT in Kenya. Binyavanga is a seasoned writer and a journalist who has traversed the world to deliver keynotes.

Benyavanga is gay who’s more so of a transvestite; he wears female clothes while attending important functions.

Last year, the renowned author attended a fundraiser for gay rights in Africa which was held in New York while donning a flowery white dress and matching cap.

Binyavanga has also delivered a speech at Ted Talk while he had put on a dress.

4. Letoya Johnstone

Not much is known about him but he caused uproar sometimes this year when he posted photos of his bikini-clad body.

Apparently Letoya Johnstone ‘became’ a woman in 2015, he decided to thirst trap gay men when he went for a swim and posed in a model-like posture.

5. Jaffar Jackson

Jaffar Jackson is a homosexual lifestyle observer, fashion stylist and model choreographer. He was born in Nairobi but attended school in London.

Jaffer dresses like a woman, he was recently quoted as saying that he had been living in the wrong body for as long as he could remember following news of Kaitylyn Jenner’s sex transformation.
