Kenya secured their maiden Sevens Series title in style on Sunday, shocking reigning champions and overall leaders Fiji in Singapore with a 30-7 win, with veteran try machine Collins Injera crossing twice in the final to take him just two away from Santiago Gomez Cora’s world record of 230.

Here are some interesting facts about the rugby team.

  1. The Kenya national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Commonwealth Games.
  2. They are currently one of the 15 “core teams” of the World Series, with a guaranteed place in all ten events each season.
  3. They are also hosts at the annual Safari Sevens which has been held in Nairobi, Kenya every year since 1996.
  4. Kenya have sometimes mistakenly been referred to as Shujaa by the international press; in fact Shujaa are the Kenya sevens ‘A’ (or second) team.
