Uncertainties take over any of us when the time comes to live a new experience. That’s what happens before you enter university.

1) Recognizes the university space2) Don’t miss the first days3) Organize time4) Get involved in university activities5) Don’t be afraid to clarify doubts, but don’t exaggerate6) Accepts diversity7) Do as your teacher would

The questions keep popping up in your head: What will it be like to be a freshman? Will the subjects be very difficult to learn? What about the university environment? Will I like it?

So that you don’t worry, we’ve prepared 7 pieces of advice so you can survive the first few weeks at university.

1) Recognizes the university space

Before the school year begins, you can visit the university space and try to understand where the classrooms, the bar, the library and other important places are.

2) Don’t miss the first days

The first days of classes at the university are usually filled with presentations and introductions to the subject which can be boring and monotonous. However, do not make the mistake of missing, because it is at this time that you will meet more new people and this will facilitate your integration. If you miss these days when you return, the groups will be done and you can feel separate.

In addition, the first classes at the university serve, from an academic point of view, so that you can know the evaluation systems and the type of exams you will face, as well as access essential information to guide your studies.

3) Organize time

At the beginning of the course, it will be useful to draw up a study calendar and organize your routine with classes, working hours and leisure activities. Organization is the key to success and if you start studying in advance you can save yourself a lot of headaches when exams take place.

4) Get involved in university activities

The university is much more than classes and exams. It is a whole concept that offers multiple possibilities for both academic and personal development. Find out about the different projects, groups and university associations that are linked to your university and if any activity pleases you do not hesitate to participate. This is also a way to make new friends.

5) Don’t be afraid to clarify doubts, but don’t exaggerate

Asking questions in class is important because it can help resolve many doubts and will also make a good impression with teachers. However, excesses are never positive. Do not become that person who always has his finger in the air. Also ask your colleagues and, if necessary, organize study groups where together they can clarify doubts.

6) Accepts diversity

When starting university you will come across people of all ages, races, nationalities and ideologies. Do not harm anyone and try to learn as much as possible from others.

7) Do as your teacher would

As you will see, each teacher has his own way of explaining, organizing concepts, solving mathematical problems, etc. The trick is to try to be a “clone” of the teacher when taking the exam. We know that this idea does not correspond to an ideal and that creativity should be rewarded, but most of the time it does not happen this way.

Try to adapt to your teacher and take the exam the way you think he would like, so he can feel identified with your answers.

The university is an unforgettable life time. Take advantage of every moment and try to have school performance, with organization and common sense, but be sure to share the unique friendship experiences that you can have in the first year of college. Reconciling studies with fun is the secret.
