It is a mistake, without a doubt. Because the eyes require daily care to avoid infections, fatigue or more serious diseases.

Below are some of the most common mistakes made by some of her patients.

  1. Sleep with contact lenses

The eyes need regular doses of oxygen, and contact lenses block the flow of oxygen to the eyes, especially during sleep. Therefore, doctors recommend a normal rest period for your eyes during the night.

In addition, contact lenses require strict cleaning routine every time they are put on and removed; not doing so can lead to an infection.

Among the precautions to be taken into account is the use of a suitable liquid to clean them each time they are placed and removed, as well as to store them in a container free of bacteria to which the liquid must be changed daily.

  1. Touch or carve your eyes

Although touching the eyes is an almost reflex, it is advisable to be careful, especially when you feel some discomfort.

Never rub or brush your eyes with dirty hands, as it can cause infections. In case of irritation do not wash with home remedies or use eye drops without medical advice.

  1. Do not have an annual eye exam

Visiting the optometrist once a year is recommended, even if you have not detected any problem with your eyes.

There are no pain receptors behind the eyes, so if you have a tumor or problem it is difficult to detect unless you go regularly to a doctor.

  1. Being in front of monitors all day

Although it is impossible to live without computers, smartphones, tablets or television, the eyes suffer, because many times the use of these devices is abused.

Experts recommend watching television at a distance of two meters. In the case of the computer, the best distance is 50 centimeters and in a linear manner, so that the eye does not have to be accommodated.

On the lighting, the expert recommends that these devices should never be used in the dark, because that generates problems in the graduation and extreme tiredness to the eyes.

While science has not yet proven that looking at computer screens causes permanent damage to the eyes, it can cause fatigue and dry eyes. The brightness of computer screens causes fatigue in the muscles in the eyes, either because they are too bright or too dark.

People blink less when they are looking at the screen, causing drier eyes. Make a conscious effort to blink every 30 seconds when you are sitting and looking at your computer screen to fight dry eyes.

  1. Use solutions or eye drops that have already expired

You need to make sure that the solution you use is still in effect either in drops or to clean your contact lenses, since the chemicals in these liquids need to be still active to kill the bacteria.

  1. Depend on drops to avoid red eyes.

If your eyes are constantly red or irritated it is important to visit a doctor, instead of constantly using drops that could only solve some problem temporarily.

  1. Do not wear sunglasses

Even when sunlight is not bothersome, the eyes are exposed to UV rays, which affect the eyes and cause problems such as cataracts, retinal burns or other diseases.

Get polarized lenses, not just dark lenses. The lenses that only obscure the world only make your pupils dilate and do nothing to filter UV rays.

Prolonged exposure to UV rays can damage your eyesight, protection during youth can help prevent vision loss in later years. Exposure to UV rays has been linked to cataracts, macular degeneration, pingueculitis and the fleshiness of the eye.

Make sure you wear sunglasses even when you are in the shade. Even when the shade decreases exposure to UV and HEV significantly, the eyes are still exposed to UV rays reflected by buildings and other structures.
