In an effort to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world journalism, the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), in collaboration with renowned media houses, is launching the MCK Industrial Placement Programme for the Financial Year 2023/2024. This pioneering initiative aims to provide journalism students with invaluable practical work experience, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the competitive job market.

Lasting for a three-month period from August to October 2023, the MCK Industrial Placement Programme offers aspiring journalists a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the dynamic media industry. To support their dedication and commitment, the Media Council of Kenya will provide a monthly stipend of up to KShs 15,000, ensuring that students can focus on their professional growth without financial constraints.

Successful applicants will have the privilege of joining recognized media houses across the nation, gaining hands-on experience in newsrooms, radio and TV studios, and online platforms. Under the guidance of experienced journalists and media professionals, these students will have the chance to witness firsthand the challenges and triumphs of reporting, storytelling, and news production.

Open to degree or diploma students pursuing Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, Digital Media, or Public Relations, the MCK Industrial Placement Programme seeks individuals who meet the specified requirements. Final year students from recognized universities or middle-level colleges are encouraged to seize this opportunity to kickstart their careers and build a solid foundation in the media industry.

Applications for the programme can be submitted through the online portal: https://mediacouncil.or.ke/opportunities/careers. To ensure prompt consideration, interested students are advised to title their application “Application for MCK Industrial Placement Programme” and submit all the necessary requirements before the deadline on Sunday, 30th July 2023.

It is crucial to note that the Media Council of Kenya strictly adheres to ethical practices and professional standards. As such, they do not request any form of payment or engage in recruitment through agents or agencies. Students can rest assured that this programme is a legitimate and credible opportunity endorsed by the Media Council of Kenya.

To apply, students must prepare the following documents:

  1. Proof of enrollment as a final year student from a recognized university or middle-level college.
  2. A recommendation letter from the university or college, affirming the student’s suitability for the placement programme.
  3. Academic transcripts for the current academic year, showcasing the student’s academic progress and achievements.
  4. A valid Student Identification Card, validating the student’s enrollment in an eligible program.
  5. A valid MCK Student Press Card for 2023, providing evidence of the student’s active participation in media-related activities.
