Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki issued a stern warning on Monday, March 18, stating that individuals found disrupting political rallies in Kenya will face legal consequences. This announcement comes in the wake of two recent incidents where hecklers disrupted President William Ruto’s rallies in Bomet and Kericho counties.

According to reports, these hecklers were allegedly hired to voice their discontent with local leaders during the rallies. Kindiki, while presiding over a consultative forum with the Kericho County Security and Intelligence Committee, emphasized that such disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated moving forward.

During the meeting, Kindiki expressed concern over the malicious intent behind these disruptions, hinting at the involvement of high-ranking individuals orchestrating these incidents. He directed Kericho County Commissioner Gabriel Kitiyo and his team to take decisive action against the organizers, financiers, and perpetrators of these disruptions, regardless of their political affiliations.

President William Ruto also condemned the disruptions, asserting that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) stands for order and discipline. He urged dissatisfied residents to exercise patience until the next election cycle in 2027 to address their grievances through the ballot.

Deputy Rigathi Gachagua echoed these sentiments, expressing regret over the embarrassment caused to President Ruto during the rallies. He emphasized the need to end this disruptive trend, as it detracts from the positive aspects of presidential tours and engagements.

Kindiki’s directive signals a firm stance by the government to uphold law and order during political events, ensuring that such disruptions do not undermine the democratic process or overshadow important discussions and engagements.
