Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s (JKIA) Terminal 1E faced a temporary closure due to a minor fire incident caused by an electrical fault on a Monday morning. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) swiftly responded to the situation, ensuring that safety protocols were enacted without any injuries or casualties reported.

In a statement released by KAA, it was confirmed that the fire was contained promptly, affirming their commitment to maintaining a secure environment within the airport premises. As a precautionary measure, power to Terminal 1E of the JKIA was temporarily cut off to prevent any potential risks, prioritizing the safety of everyone involved.

To minimize disruptions for passengers and airlines, all flight arrival operations were redirected to Terminal 1A until Terminal 1E is deemed safe for regular operations again. This strategic decision aims to ensure a smooth continuation of services while addressing the immediate aftermath of the incident.

The sudden occurrence caused a brief moment of panic as passengers and airport staff were evacuated from the affected area. However, the efficient response from airport authorities helped alleviate concerns and manage the situation effectively.

Terminal 1E is a vital hub for international flights, catering to airlines such as British Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Lufthansa. Despite the temporary closure of a section, efforts are underway to restore normalcy and resume operations seamlessly.

KAA reiterated their commitment to maintaining high safety standards and thanked all parties involved for their cooperation during this period of precautionary measures. Passengers and stakeholders are advised to stay updated with official announcements regarding the reopening of Terminal 1E for regular operations.
