Chol Tot Nyang, an 18-year-old model from Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, has emerged as the winner of the prestigious Africa’s Next Super Model competition. The grand finale, held at Nairobi’s Broadwalk Mall on Saturday, November 9, featured 18 finalists from across the continent. Nyang captivated the judges and the audience with her unique charm, grace, and exceptional runway skills, ultimately securing the KSh 645,000 prize.

Nyang’s victory follows the success of Achol Khan, who won the inaugural Africa’s Next Super Model title in October 2023. The event showcased top talent from across Africa, with participants vying for the title and opportunities in the global fashion industry.

Kenya’s Magdalene Takanyiro also shone brightly, finishing in the top five. Her placement earned her a coveted spot to walk the Milan runway in February 2025, marking a significant achievement for the country.

The event drew notable figures, including Timothy Owase, CEO of the Kenya Film Commission, and Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). In a speech, Murkomen, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, emphasized the government’s support for the creative economy. He highlighted plans to reduce taxes on filming equipment to encourage local and international film projects in Kenya.

The event’s organizers, Isis Models, were praised for their role in empowering young African models and fostering the growth of the continent’s creative economy. Joan Okorodudu, CEO of Isis Models, shared her vision for Nairobi as a central hub for global fashion. She also announced that several participants from the competition had already signed with top international modeling agencies in Paris, New York, and London.

The Africa’s Next Super Model competition not only celebrates the talents of aspiring models but also contributes to the broader creative and fashion industries in Africa, further positioning the continent as a key player in global fashion.
