Billy Mwangi, a popular blogger, returned home on Monday, January 6, after being missing for 15 days, leaving his family overjoyed yet still traumatized by the ordeal. Billy had been abducted on December 21, 2024, while at a barber shop in Embu town, and his sudden disappearance had sparked nationwide concern.

His mother, Regina Wairimu, shared an emotional account of the moment her son returned home. At 8 a.m. on January 6, Billy knocked on the gate and called out to her, saying, “Mum, open.” Regina, overwhelmed with emotion, rushed to open the gate and found Billy standing there, safe and sound. “We want to thank God first and Kenyans at large for your immense support. He came to the gate at 8 am and knocked. He said, ‘Mum open’ and when I went, I found he was okay. God knows, but we thank everybody who prayed for us,” she expressed.

Billy’s father, Gerald Karicha, echoed Regina’s sentiment, expressing gratitude for his son’s safe return while acknowledging the trauma the family has endured. “We are still traumatised, but we are happy our son is back,” Gerald said. He recalled the exact moment Billy returned, explaining how he and Regina were outside when they saw their son at the gate. “He came at around 8 am. He brought himself home. I was with his mum outside when we saw him. We thank God to all the people who have prayed with us and supported us,” Gerald added.

The emotional reunion was captured on video, showing Billy hugging his mother, Regina, who was in tears. In a touching display of love and care, Billy gently wiped away his mother’s tears, an act that resonated with many who watched the video online. This heartfelt moment highlighted the strong bond between mother and son and moved many viewers to tears.

Billy’s abduction had sparked widespread outrage and concern from the public, with many Kenyans coming together to demand his safe return. Following his release, social media was flooded with messages of support for the family, as well as calls for the release of other individuals still missing in the country.

Billy’s father also shared that his son was in good health following the ordeal. Despite the physical and emotional toll, the family was relieved to have him back home and expressed gratitude to all those who had supported them during the difficult time.

The return of Billy Mwangi not only brought immense joy to his family but also served as a reminder of the strength of community and the power of collective action in the face of adversity.
