Joyce Gituro, the former Radio Citizen presenter, recently opened up about her personal life, revealing the challenges that led to her divorce and her hopes for a future relationship. During an interview on Radio Jambo on January 20, Joyce shared the pivotal role that communication—or the lack thereof—played in the breakdown of her marriage.

The 53-year-old mother of three, who has been single since her marriage ended in 2008, explained how her failure to engage in meaningful conversations with her ex-husband contributed to their separation. “Nilimyamazia, I broke off communication. I kept quiet instead of engaging and finding a solution. I wasn’t the type to enquire about what was happening. I was full of pride and refused to discuss anything,” she said. Joyce acknowledged that men are often not the best communicators either, which added to the strain on their relationship.

Despite efforts from her ex-husband to reconcile, the damage was already done. “He tried, but by the time he was engaging, the damage had already been done. You know, women check out emotionally very early, and there was nothing I could do. I was tired, and he was also tired,” she explained. However, the two remain on good terms for the sake of their children, occasionally communicating about parenting matters.

Joyce’s Ideal Partner

Now, after nearly 15 years of singlehood, Joyce revealed her desire to find love again. She has a clear idea of what she wants in a future partner. “I want someone who is financially stable, who loves me, and is ready to travel,” she shared. Joyce expressed that she is seeking a partner between the ages of 48 and 58, someone who is neither too old nor too young. “Sitaki mtu mzee sana, the type who after a few years I’ll be the one taking care of, but I also don’t want someone too young,” she explained.

Her son, Jakes Nyanjom, who is also a radio presenter, gave insight into the type of man he believes should pursue his mother. According to Jakes, any potential partner must be ambitious and capable of inspiring his mother. “He should be doing two times better than her, two times over. If you are going to have a chance to even sit down and have a conversation with Joyce Gituro, then trust me, if you don’t inspire her, then just save your time,” he said. Jakes also emphasized the importance of patience, belief in God, and being willing to take Joyce out on dates.

Joyce’s Journey as a Single Mother

Since her marriage ended, Joyce has focused on raising her three children, dedicating herself to providing for them and guiding them through life. Despite the emotional challenges, she remains hopeful that love will find her again. Joyce’s journey is a reminder that personal growth, communication, and mutual respect are key ingredients in building a successful relationship.

As Joyce moves forward, she continues to inspire many, showing that it is never too late to find love again while balancing personal aspirations and responsibilities as a mother.
