The First Lady, who has maintained a low profile, made a subtle fashion statement, wearing a floral blouse paired with black pants, while the President opted for a simple yet elegant look, donning grey trousers, a purple-blue shirt, and a black coat.
The trip comes ahead of a significant political event as former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga vies for the position of AUC chairperson. The elections are set to take place during the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi acknowledged the growing enthusiasm among Kenyans, noting that many had traveled to Ethiopia independently to support Raila Odinga’s bid. He emphasized the strong sense of patriotism, with some individuals even financing their own travel arrangements to witness the elections firsthand.
The upcoming vote is expected to be highly contested, with Raila facing competition from Djibouti’s Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato. While the Kenyan government has expressed confidence in Raila’s victory, governance analysts have pointed out geopolitical challenges that may impact the outcome. Concerns over Kenya’s perceived role in regional peace efforts, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, have raised questions about the country’s influence within the AU.
