Rising Kenyan rapper Cosign Black is experiencing a career-defining moment after receiving high praise from hip hop heavyweight Khaligraph Jones. The recognition came after Cosign’s standout performance on The Next Superstar, a new talent competition airing on StarTimes’ Rembo TV. Khaligraph, often hailed as Kenya’s top rapper, reacted to Cosign’s electrifying delivery with fire emojis on Instagram—an unspoken yet powerful endorsement that quickly generated buzz across social media platforms.

Cosign, who is just 22 years old, expressed heartfelt gratitude in an interview with TUKO.co.ke, saying, “I wasn’t expecting the overwhelming praise I got today, and I thank God for this incredible opportunity. This is my chance to step into the spotlight and prove myself. I’m up against talented acts like Andy Saharan, Switney, Rouwa, Snaidah Don Dada, and Jose Jay, but my goal is to elevate Kenyan music to the next level.”

The show has become a powerful platform for emerging talent across genres. One particularly emotional moment came from 13-year-old Sheila Wanjiru, whose moving performance brought gospel artist Size 8 Reborn to tears. Deeply touched, Size 8 embraced Sheila and promised to support her throughout her musical journey, saying, “You are deeply blessed and favoured. From now on, I’ll be by your side through this journey—you no longer have to walk it alone.”

The Next Superstar, hosted by Eddie Butita and Amina Abdi Rabar, features a star-studded panel of judges including Size 8 Reborn, King Kaka, and producer Motif the Don. The show is scheduled to run for 13 live episodes along with 13 mid-week editions, offering contestants ample exposure.

According to StarTimes’ Head of PR and Content Syndication, Myke Mwai, the show represents more than just entertainment—it’s a mission to revolutionize Kenya’s music scene. “We are dedicated to shaping the future of Kenya’s music industry. This is not merely a talent show—it’s a platform to launch the next wave of artists who will lead our entertainment scene,” Mwai told TUKO.co.ke.

Elsewhere in Kenya’s creative space, Gukena FM presenter and comedian MC Kajim recently launched the Kajim Talent Hub, a project aimed at identifying and nurturing young creatives from grassroots communities. With support from dignitaries like Dennis Itumbi from the Office of the President, the initiative provides mentorship and income-generating opportunities through digital platforms. Kajim emphasized that the arts should be seen as a legitimate career path, especially for youth seeking new opportunities in an increasingly digital world.

With support from industry giants and emerging platforms like The Next Superstar, artists like Cosign Black are finding the spotlight and reshaping Kenya’s music narrative.
