TikToker Selfie Man has stirred controversy after accusing comedian and activist Eric Omondi of being paid by powerful elites to criticise the Kenyan government. His comments, made during a recent interview, have sparked heated debate across social media platforms.

According to Selfie Man, Eric’s activism is not genuine. He claimed the comedian receives money to stage protests and make noise online, only to disappear once payments are made. “He is sponsored by the elite to fight against the government. When he is paid, he disappears from the internet. If he had stayed consistent, he would have become the leader of Gen Zs. But he is wishy-washy,” Selfie Man said.

The allegations quickly spread on TikTok and Instagram, dividing opinions among Kenyans. Some users agreed with Selfie Man, suggesting that Eric’s activism lacks consistency. Others defended Eric, praising his efforts to speak out on behalf of struggling Kenyans.

Many fans rejected Selfie Man’s claims, arguing that Eric Omondi has helped raise awareness on key issues such as unemployment, poverty, and the high cost of living. Comments under the viral video showed a strong wave of support for the comedian. Some users said Selfie Man was seeking attention and trying to discredit someone already respected by the public.

Eric Omondi has become a major voice in Kenya’s social activism scene. He has organised protests, delivered food to the poor, and called out government corruption. His actions have positioned him as one of the most visible advocates for ordinary Kenyans.

TUKO.co.ke reached out to Eric Omondi for comment regarding the allegations, but there was no response at the time of publication.

The claims by Selfie Man have also reignited conversations about authenticity in digital activism. Some social media users questioned whether influencers and public figures are sometimes funded by political interests to drive certain agendas. Others insisted that regardless of who funds them, the issues raised still deserve national attention.

As debate continues, Eric Omondi remains silent on the accusations. His supporters have urged him to stay focused on his activism and ignore online distractions.

The controversy highlights the growing tension between online influencers and activists in Kenya, where social media now plays a central role in shaping political and public opinion.
