Kenyan Genge artist Mejja has confirmed that his long-awaited debut album, which was expected to drop this year, has been postponed to 2026. The announcement surprised fans who have been eagerly anticipating the project, which has been in development for two years.

Mejja, one of Kenya’s most celebrated hitmakers, revealed that the delay is meant to ensure that the album meets the high standards he has set for himself and his fans. He promised that once released, it will deliver an authentic Genge experience that captures the essence of his musical journey.

“This is my biggest project yet,” Mejja said, explaining that he wants to take more time to refine every detail. He emphasized that the upcoming album will stay true to the Genge sound that defined his career, blending relatable storytelling with the signature humor and street influence that have made him a household name.

Fans have been looking forward to a full-length project from Mejja, who has built his reputation through a string of successful singles and collaborations. Known for hits like Kanairo Dating, Siskii, and Ulimi Yangu, Mejja’s music has long dominated Kenyan airwaves and club playlists.

The artist hinted that the album will feature both established and upcoming artists, reflecting his commitment to uplifting new talent in the Kenyan music scene. He also noted that the extra time will allow him to create visuals and rollout plans that match the quality of the music itself.

While many fans expressed disappointment at the postponement, most agreed that Mejja’s dedication to quality is worth the wait. The announcement has also fueled speculation about potential collaborations and new sounds that could define the project once it finally drops.

With the release now set for 2026, Mejja continues to record and perform, assuring fans that he will keep releasing singles to maintain the Genge spirit alive until the album arrives. His decision reflects a growing trend among top Kenyan artists who are taking more time to produce long-form projects that stand the test of time. When it finally drops, Mejja’s debut album is expected to be one of the most defining releases in modern Kenyan music.
