Veteran Kenyan artiste Nazizi has opened up about a difficult period in her life when a serious knee injury affected her ability to move, exercise and enjoy everyday activities. The celebrated musician revealed that she spent years relying on a crutch and knee brace after doctors diagnosed her with Grade 4 Chondromalacia patella, a condition affecting the cartilage beneath the kneecap. The injury affected her physical activities and also took a major emotional toll as she struggled with constant pain. Doctors recommended surgery as a possible solution, but Nazizi was determined to explore other options before undergoing an operation. Her journey from living with severe discomfort to regaining mobility has become an important part of her personal story.

Nazizi shared details of her experience during a conversation featured on TikTok by Tia Clinics Africa, where she explained how the injury changed her daily life. The musician said an MRI scan confirmed the severity of the cartilage damage, leading orthopaedic specialists to advise that she consider surgery. At the time, Nazizi was active in sports and training regularly, making the injury especially difficult to accept. She explained that heavy leg exercises, including squats, contributed to the strain on her knee over time. The condition eventually reached a point where simple movements became challenging and affected her confidence, comfort and overall quality of life.

The artiste described the years after her diagnosis as one of the most challenging periods she had experienced. She revealed that she struggled to sleep comfortably, could not train as she wanted and depended on support equipment to move around. Nazizi said she often wore a brace on her left leg and used a crutch while continuing her daily responsibilities, including working at Vibes. The ongoing pain affected her mentally because activities she once enjoyed became difficult or impossible. She described the experience as emotionally exhausting, explaining that living with constant discomfort changed the way she approached everyday routines.

The possibility of surgery was a major concern for Nazizi because she feared it could limit her active lifestyle permanently. She explained that seeing other people go through surgical procedures and long recovery periods made her hesitant about choosing that option immediately. Her father, who has a medical background, encouraged her to research alternative treatments, including procedures used by professional athletes. This advice led her to explore options that could potentially improve her condition without immediately undergoing surgery. Her search eventually brought her to a Nairobi-based facility where she sought another approach to managing her knee problem.

Nazizi visited Tia Clinics in Nairobi after searching for possible alternatives to surgery. According to her account, she received a GFC knee treatment, which the clinic describes as a growth factor concentrate procedure similar in concept to stem cell therapy. She admitted that she approached the treatment with some doubt because she had spent years adjusting to pain as part of her normal life. After living with limited movement for such a long time, she was unsure whether the procedure would make a significant difference. However, the results she experienced after the first treatment surprised her and changed her outlook.

The morning after her first treatment became a memorable moment for Nazizi. She said she contacted the clinic through a video call while moving around excitedly in slippers because she could walk more freely. The clinician reminded her to wear proper shoes with enough cushioning, but the moment represented a major emotional breakthrough for the musician. Nazizi recalled being amazed that she could walk and even run after years of struggling with movement. The experience gave her renewed confidence and showed her that she could regain a better quality of life.

Nazizi explained that she has remained largely free from the pain that affected her for years. She said she has only needed one follow-up treatment session approximately three years after the initial procedure. For the artiste, the biggest change was not only physical recovery but also regaining independence and the ability to participate in activities without constant discomfort. Her experience has shaped her views on chronic pain and the importance of seeking help rather than accepting suffering as a permanent condition. She encouraged people dealing with similar challenges not to ignore pain that affects their quality of life.

The musician’s story has attracted attention because it highlights the challenges many people face when dealing with long-term injuries. Serious knee conditions can affect mobility, exercise routines and emotional well-being, especially for people who lead active lifestyles. Nazizi’s experience also shows the personal decisions people often face when considering medical treatment options. While she chose an alternative route before surgery, treatment decisions for injuries vary depending on individual medical circumstances. Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of consulting qualified healthcare professionals when dealing with persistent physical problems.

Nazizi has remained one of Kenya’s most recognised music figures, known for her contribution to the country’s entertainment industry over many years. Her openness about her health journey has allowed fans to see a different side of her beyond her career achievements. By sharing the struggles behind her injury, she has highlighted the emotional and physical challenges that can come with long-term pain. Her story also reflects her determination to regain control of her life after years of limitations. The experience has become a powerful personal milestone for the veteran artiste.

Nazizi’s journey from relying on crutches and a knee brace to returning to an active lifestyle demonstrates the impact that finding the right treatment approach can have on a person’s life. Her experience with Grade 4 Chondromalacia patella was a difficult chapter, but she has described the recovery process as life-changing. She continues to encourage people not to normalise constant pain and to seek solutions that can improve their well-being. The musician’s story is a reminder that physical challenges can affect every area of life, but recovery and renewed confidence are possible with the right support and care.
