Three decades on this earth is no minor feat. And to get here, you must have done some things right and learnt from your mistakes as well.

Or maybe that big day when you turn thirty is filling you with dread. You have been working hard and yet to get that lucky break. Your friends are getting married while you cuddle a book in your sleep. For you to step into it with confidence, here are some things you could try:

1. Develop your life’s sound track

It could be a loud, funky tune or a mellow, jazzy one. This beat of your life soundtrack is who you are and who you’ve become because of experiences that have shaped your life. It is becoming comfortable with yourself and letting go of things that bring you down. It is learning to block out things that other people say about you. It is moving past insecurities that make you seek out validation from any other person but you. It is dusting yourself off and dancing to your life’s rhythm all over again.

2. Explore your spirituality

The intensity of religion is mostly in your head, allow me to explain. Why would a good God bring you misery and pain with no end in sight? The exploration of your spirituality happens over time and your experiences as an individual shape how you relate with God/ Allah/ Budha. It is by stepping away from what you have been taught and coming into your own that you make peace with your purpose in life.

3. Learning

Through life’s classes. Through travel.  Through relationships. And reading deeply and widely. Then channeling all that into practice through the things you do in your daily life and realising that maybe you’re priorities need some adjustment.

4. Live and let live.

This should be something you do every day even before you turn thirty! Why? Because you deserve happiness, sunshine and good things.
