Police on Tuesday gunned down a wanted terror suspect, Ismail Mohammed Soshi, in Kisauni, Mombasa County.
The suspect was shot dead at around 11.30am when police raided a rental house in Mwandoni.
He is believed to be a member of a hit squad that targeted police officers. He was accused of killing a National Intelligence Service officer Hashim Salman in July last year.
According to Kisauni OCPD Richard Ngatia, the suspect had moved into the house two days ago.
Mr Ngatia said, the suspect shot at them when police raided the house. He was killed in the exchange of fire that ensued.
“We have recovered a G3 rifle that he is suspected of stealing from an officer he and others killed,” said Mr Ngatia.
Hundreds rounds of ammunition and a terror training manual which he had been using to escape police dragnet were also recovered, according to Mr Ngatia.
Last year, police launched a manhunt for killers who were targeting police officers in Mombasa. Mr Soshi was linked to the killings.
Members of the hit squad are said to hjaveused religious attire, including bui buis, to disguise themselves and hide their weapons.
