After two months Paul Put filed his resignation as Kenya’s national coach, the Kenyan Football Association (FKF) announced on Monday. Assistant national coach Stanley Okumbi takes over for the time being.

Our 61-year-old compatriot had only started working in Kenya since mid-November. The Kenyan League cites “personal reasons” as a reason for the dismissal.

Put, somewhat burned in Belgium by the gambling affair around Zheyun Ye, was working on his fourth challenge as national coach.

In addition to Gambia (2008-2011) and Burkina Faso (2012-2015), he also briefly coached Jordan (2015-2016).

With Burkina Faso, Put achieved the greatest triumph in his career. Put led the country in 2013 to the final of the Africa Cup, which lost 1-0 to Nigeria.

In Belgium, Put was, among others, coach of Verbroedering Geel (1998-2000), Ingelmunster (2000-2001), Sporting Lokeren (2001-2003), Lierse (2004-2005) and Mouscron (2006).
