10 Facts You Should Know About Irene Koki Who Will Fly President Uhuru’s Historic US Journey

History will be made when the Africa’s first female Dreamliner captain, Irene Koki Mutungi will fly President Uhuru Kenyatta to US from Kenya in a maiden journey.

The flight which will start from JKIA  in Nairobi airport at 11.25 pm on October 28 will stop at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York at 6.25 am the next day.

It will be the first of its kind flight journey after USA and Kenya agreed to have direct flights.

Tickets are already being sold and economy class will pay Ksh.89,000 while business will pay Ksh.257,634.

Both tickets will serve both ways.

The flight will have four pilots, 12 air hostesses and 234 passangers with loads of 85 tonnes of fuel loaded for one way,

Passenger section with come with 30 at the premium world class and 204 in the economy section.

Facts about captain Koki

  1. Koki was the first female on the African continent to become certified as a Captain of the Boeing 787″Dreamliner” aircraft
  2. She flies the Kenya’s national airline, Kenya Airways
  3. Koki was born 42 years ago in 1972 by a pilot father.
  4. She studied at Moi Girls School Nairobi
  5. She then enrolled at Wilson Airport for a private pilots license before moving to USA in Oklohama city where she obtained her Commercial Pilot’s License from the Federal Aviation Authority
  6. She returned to Kenya in 1995 and got hired by Kenya Airways as the only female pilot for about 6 years
  7. In 2004 she became the only first female from Africa to qualify to fly a Boeing when she given charge of Boeing 767.
  8. She was later promoted to be the captain of B787, making her the first African female Boeing 787 Captain in the world
  9. In 2014 she was on Forbes Magazine naming her to be “The 20 Youngest Power Women In Africa 2014”
  10. Her father who has retired is now a consultant in the filed of aviation
