A South African woman who was declared dead by paramedics was found alive in a morgue fridge moments after being taken off from an accident scene.
The woman had been taken to Carletonville morgue, in Gauteng province after she was involved in a freak road accident.
Local South African media reported that an ambulance service had noted to ‘no form of life’ from the woman’s body but when a mortician returned to check the body, it was breathing.
The woman was later taken for further treatment and forensic tests
Distress Alert operations manager Gerrit Bradnick responded to media stating that this was ‘no proof’ of negligence from his team.
“This did not happen because our paramedics are not properly trained,” he said.
Three doctors surprisingly had declared the woman dead.
In the past few years, there have been such cases in South Africa.
About seven years ago, a 50 year old man woke up screaming in an Eastern Cape morgue. While in 2016 another road accident victim from KwaZulu Natal was found breathing in a morgue, only to die after 5 hours
