10 Things You Don’t Know About Musa Otieno

Musa Otieno is former Kenya National team Harambee Stars player. His playing position was defending midfield. He is one of the most celebrated players in Kenyan football. He has made 104 appearances for the national team. He is the current Harambee Stars assistant coach. Here are some of the facts you don’t know about Musa

10. He is the founder and director of Musa Otieno Foundation. This is a non profit soccer academy in Jericho, Nairobi area. The aim of the foundation is to develop soccer talent among the young boys and girls within Nairobi.

9. In 2014, he was invited by Burundi’s president Pierre Nkurunzinza, to be part of kick off for Hope Soccer Team. The teams which comprise of Christian soccer players and coaches from different parts of the world, were invited to play at the president’s palace. The event was organized for sports evangelism.

8. Apart from playing for national team, he has also played for AFC leopards and Tusker FC in Kenyan premier league. He played for AFC(1992-1994) and in Tusker from(1994-1997)

7. Musa was born in Ofafa Maringo, Makadara constituency in Nairobi. He was educated at Dr Kraft Primary School and Ofafa Jericho Secondary School before joining football.

6. He started playing for the national team at the age of 19 years. This was in 1993, when Kenya was playing Zaire. He played for the team making 104 appaerences which ended in January.

5. He played for Santos FC in South Africa for about 14 years. He won
different titles with the club including Premiere Soccer League Title in
2002. He further became the team’s captain and later an assistant coach.

4. He was voted Top 100 most influential Kenyans in 2007. This was due to his impact in Kenyan and international football.

3. He played for Cleveland FC in USA in the year 2008. While at Cleveland, for loan from Santos FC, he managed to help the club rise from second division league to division 1 league.

2. While in South Africa, he won different awards including 2006/2007 Santos Player Of The Year and Capetown Writers Of The Year in 2004/2005

1. He is a member of FC Talanta technical bench. FC Talanta is FKF premiere league team.
