Controversial YouTuber Andrew Kibe has signaled his intention to contest the Langata Constituency seat in the 2027 General Election. Kibe shared a throwback campaign poster from his first attempt at the seat, which he ran for under the United Democratic Forum (UDF) party led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Kibe’s earlier political bid saw him openly criticize the current Langata MP, Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o. However, he eventually conceded defeat in 2013 and publicly congratulated Jalang’o after the results.
In a recent post, Kibe reshared the 2013 poster, reflecting on his life then and hinting at future plans. He noted he was “a happily married man” at the time and added, “We are planning ourselves accordingly for 2027. Kenya is ours.” His announcement has reignited discussions about political competition in Langata, a constituency now closely associated with Jalang’o.
Public reactions to Kibe’s potential candidacy are mixed. Some express concern over the growing number of contenders aiming to challenge Jalang’o, while others question whether Kibe’s media background and outspoken personality are suited for parliamentary duties. A section of netizens also speculate that Kibe may use the announcement to generate public attention, leveraging his content creation skills for political clout.
Kibe’s hint at entering the 2027 race underscores the increasing intersection of media personalities and politics in Kenya. His past experience in campaigning and significant online following may give him visibility, but his success will depend on voter perception and ability to navigate traditional political structures.
As the election approaches, all eyes will be on Langata to see if Kibe formalizes his candidacy and how the contest unfolds against the incumbent MP, Jalang’o.
