Kenyan senator Karen Nyamu has shared a heartfelt tribute to Beryl Odinga, remembering her as a supportive colleague who showed consistent kindness during their time working together. Beryl, sister to Raila Odinga, passed away on November 25 after receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital. Her family later transferred her body to Lee Funeral Home.

Nyamu recalled that she first met Beryl when they served together on the board of Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company. Beryl was the chair. Nyamu said Beryl took a special interest in her well-being from the first day. She offered guidance, checked on her regularly and often advised her about handling public criticism. Nyamu noted that these moments shaped her outlook on leadership and personal resilience.

Nyamu added that she sensed something was wrong when Beryl did not attend a recent family funeral. She tried reaching her with no success. She later learned about her passing, which she described as a painful loss. Nyamu also shared a photo of the two relaxing together during a past trip. They appeared comfortable and cheerful, dressed in light travel wear and shemagh scarves.

Beryl’s passing has affected many Kenyans who remember her involvement in public service and community issues. Reactions to Nyamu’s tribute reflected concern and curiosity. Some wondered why Nyamu could not reach Beryl through family members. Others questioned whether more could have been done to check on her. The general tone showed sadness and a desire for clarity.

Beryl Odinga leaves behind a legacy of leadership and mentorship. Her work within Nairobi Water and her influence in public affairs earned her wide respect. Nyamu’s tribute highlights the personal impact Beryl had on those who worked with her. Many Kenyans continue to share memories of her calm presence and commitment to service.

Her loss marks a difficult moment for the Odinga family and for those who valued her guidance.
