Kenya’s young talent Angel Atieno has made her country proud by finishing third at the Our Generation Singing Competition held in Moscow, Russia. The 14-year-old outperformed 15 other performers from around the world, showcasing her musical and creative abilities on an international stage.

The event, held on October 11, provides a global platform for young performers to showcase their talent and promote cultural exchange. Angel’s original song, Nyota, earned her the third-place spot, impressing judges and audiences alike. She explained that the song encourages people to pursue their dreams and embrace their talents: “My song is called Nyota, a star. It encourages kids and adults alike to shine in their own time. Always follow your dreams, show your talents, and never give up.”

Angel credited her vocal coach, Hellen Mtawali, for nurturing her talent during the COVID-19 lockdown. She described her journey from singing TikTok covers to performing on a global stage as a testament to perseverance and dedication.

Angel Atieno is a multi-talented performer. Beyond singing, she has acted in popular Kenyan TV shows including Zora, Chozi, Lulu, and Ka Siri. She is also a martial artist, gymnast, and voice-over artist. Her musical career began in 2019 with her debut song Worship, followed by Chunya, Kenya Idumu, Hold Onto Hope, and her latest release, Nyota.

Social media erupted with congratulations following her achievement. Kenyans praised her for representing the country internationally. Comments included, “Congratulations for making Kenya’s name proud,” “She deserves it, she is super talented,” and “Kenya to the world.”

Angel has also gained attention for her covers, including a rendition of Rihanna’s Live Your Life, which earned international recognition on TikTok. Her performance highlighted her ability to bring a personal touch to well-known songs, further establishing her presence in the music scene.

Angel Atieno’s third-place finish at the Our Generation Singing Competition cements her status as one of Kenya’s rising stars. Her success reflects her dedication, talent, and the potential of young creatives to make an impact on the global stage.
