APHRC Hiring Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy relevant multidisciplinary research. Our research addresses important development issues and challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization and wellbeing. Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa.

The APHRC invites applications for Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers in its Gender and Education project. The overall objective of this study is to provide policy-relevant evidence for action on how well gender issues are mainstreamed during curriculum implementation in basic education in Kenya. The study will take place in 10 counties namely Busia, Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, Tana River, Turkana, Samburu, Wajir, Nairobi, and West Pokot.

Qualitative Field Interviewers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Science, Humanities, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in qualitative research, including facilitating interviews and note taking.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili (verbal and written).
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Must be a current resident of the target counties (Busia, Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, Tana River, Turkana, Samburu, Wajir, Nairobi, and West Pokot).

Responsibilities

  • Attend all scheduled training days and progress meetings.
  • Mobilize study respondents as defined in the study.
  • Consenting study respondents prior to the qualitative interviews.
  • Facilitate the qualitative interviews, note taking, and drafting of debriefing reports.
  • Archiving and uploading completed audio files for processing.
  • Ensuring the safety of data collection tools and equipment assigned.
  • Complete any other project activity assigned by the research team.
  • Be prepared to work full-time on the project for the duration of the study.

Quantitative Field Interviewers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have at least a KCSE (C) and above.
  • Working knowledge and experience in MS Office and electronic data collection platforms.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili (verbal and written).
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Must be a current resident of the target counties (Busia, Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, Tana River, Turkana, Samburu, Wajir, Nairobi, and West Pokot).

Responsibilities

  • Attend all scheduled training days and progress meetings.
  • Mobilizing study participants as defined in the study.
  • Consenting study participants prior to administering the survey.
  • Conducting face-to-face interviews with sampled participants as sampled for the study.
  • Complete, edit and submit all assigned interviews for verification by team leaders.
  • Compiling and submitting a daily work progress report to the immediate supervisor.
  • Ensuring the safety of all assigned study tools and equipment.
  • Any other related activity assigned by the research team.
  • Be prepared to work full-time on the project for the duration of the study.
