Stemming biodiversity loss and making decisions about species and ecosystems are key global conservation issues and challenges. There is a demonstrable lack of funds available to African conservationists and so this partial bursary offers a training opportunity for talented conservationists currently resident in Africa.

EligibilityAssessmentNotification of the outcome and acceptanceFurther information

A bursary of up to £3,000 will be deducted from the PGCert course fees for 2017/18 entry only.

Eligibility

All eligible candidates will be considered for the bursary (there is no separate application process). Candidates will be eligible if:

(a) they meet the entry criteria for the PGCert;

(b) their PGCert application is deemed to have been fully completed by 12 May 2017 (while applications to the PGCert may be accepted after this date, they will not be eligible for the bursary); and

(c) they are a current resident of an African country, excluding Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.

Assessment

The Bursary Panel (comprising at least two suitable University staff) will assess the eligible candidates and make a recommendation for the award of the bursary.

The panel may recommend a ranked shortlist (if it is declined by the first awardee, it may be offered to the next, and so on).  The bursary will not be offered if there are no (further) suitable candidates.

Notification of the outcome and acceptance

The first-nominated awardee will be notified by email by 16 June 2017.

The awardee should notify the course administrator as soon as possible should they wish to decline the offer of the bursary (for any reason), or to decline the offer of a place on the PGCert.  This will allow the bursary to be offered to another eligible student.

The course webpage will be updated to show when a bursary has been awarded. Candidates who have not been awarded a bursary will be notified individually by email.  We regret that we are unable to offer individuals feedback concerning the bursary decision.

Further information

For any queries about the bursary, please email the course team at est@conted.ox.ac.uk.
