Veteran Kenyan musician Kevin Kioko, popularly known as Bahati, is celebrating a decade in the music industry. He reflected on his journey, starting as a gospel singer before transitioning to secular music, where he built a successful career. Over time, some of his music, videos, and public appearances drew criticism for explicit content and controversial choices.

Bahati recently released a song titled Seti after a year-long hiatus. The song received backlash from Kenyans who accused him of promoting immorality. In response, Bahati issued a public apology through a video message. He explained that he had received numerous calls and messages from fans, pastors, and others, and wanted to respond thoughtfully rather than emotionally.

“I am marking 10 years in the music scene, and I want to start by saying thank you for your support. It has kept me on top for all those years,” he said. He also reflected on his early life, noting the challenges of growing up without a father figure and his efforts to be a role model for his children.

Bahati admitted to making mistakes along the way and acknowledged that he has lost the trust of some fans. “As a young person, I agree that I have made a lot of mistakes. I have lost my way several times, and I have let down people who look up to me. I understand,” he said.

In his apology, Bahati asked for forgiveness from his fans and from God. He expressed remorse for actions that may have disappointed followers and for times he felt he did not act as a responsible father. He also stated that, although he does not consider himself called to be a pastor, he would follow that path if guided.

“I apologise for all the times you feel like I do not act as a responsible father to my kids and those who follow me. I apologise for all the times you feel like I let Christianity down. But most importantly, to my father in heaven, forgive me of my sins. I am just a man, I have never left you God,” he said.

Bahati further stated that he wants God to publicly demonstrate his support and silence his critics. He shared another video expressing his remorse and gratitude for divine guidance in his life.

The apology has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some users questioned the sincerity of his message, while others encouraged him to focus on personal growth.

Bahati’s 10-year milestone highlights both his achievements and the challenges of growing up in the public eye while navigating criticism and personal struggles.
