Kenyan musician Bahati, once a celebrated gospel star, has been trending again following renewed debate over his career choices and lifestyle. The father of four, who transitioned from gospel to secular music, has often been in the spotlight for his flashy image with his wife, Diana Marua. His latest release, Seti, sparked heavy criticism from fans for its explicit themes. However, a resurfaced video of singer Size 8 Reborn has shifted the focus, highlighting Bahati’s lasting impact on the gospel scene.

Bahati first rose to fame through heartfelt gospel hits that earned him multiple awards. His songs, often inspired by his humble beginnings, made him one of Kenya’s most influential young artists of his time. Over the years, his decision to cross over to secular music divided opinion, with some praising his versatility and others accusing him of abandoning his gospel calling.

In the video, Size 8 recalled how Bahati influenced her spiritual journey when she first got saved. She revealed that he taught her how to pray and inspired her to embrace a life of deep faith. “The person who taught me how to pray when I got born again was Bahati. Bahati would go for six to eight hours in prayer. Where do you think his favour came from? He inspired me in one way, and I like giving credit. And that is why I do not agree with Bahati’s music. Because he played a huge role in me to have children. God used him because I call him a prophet. God really used Bahati,” she said.

Size 8 went on to describe Bahati as a powerful prayer warrior, expressing sadness that his change of direction has taken him away from the foundation that once defined him. The testimony has rekindled memories of Bahati’s gospel era, reminding fans of his strong ministry roots.

On social media, Kenyans shared mixed views. Some prayed for Bahati’s return to gospel, while others argued that his marriage and lifestyle had redirected his path. Comments included sentiments like “Hakuna kitu mbaya kama starting with spirit and ending with flesh” and “Bahati will come back to ministry one day.” Others pointed to his wife, Diana Marua, as a possible influence, with one user writing, “The person you marry matters a lot.”

Bahati’s journey continues to spark debate in Kenya’s music circles. While his secular projects such as Seti have kept him relevant in entertainment headlines, stories like Size 8’s testimony reinforce the belief among many fans that his true calling may still be in gospel music. For now, the conversation remains open, with many watching to see whether Bahati will ever return to the ministry that first made him a household name.
