Caf have fined Kenya US$10, 000 (approximately Sh1million) and warned that the country risks playing in a neutral venue
Football Kenya Federation have been fined by Confederation of African Football (Caf) following crowd trouble that marred their match against Guinea Bissau.
The match played at Nyayo Stadium on March 27 was stopped for over 30 minutes after Kenyan players protested a decision by the referee to award Guinea Bissau their goal. The move forced Kenyan fans to attack Guinea Bissau players and match officials before the game resumed.
Guinea Bissau went on to win the Cup of Nations qualifier by a solitary goal. Caf have now fined Kenya US$10, 000 (approximately Sh1million) and warned that the country risks playing in a neutral venue if similar incident occurs again.
Caf said in their statement, “We warn Kenya that security measures should be observed during matches and in case a similar incident occurs, the team may play on neutral venue.”
