There two reasons why Mulan is being received with massive boycott calls in Chinese mainland.
Liu Yifei who plays as the main character, Mulan is supporting police brutality in Hong Kong . A move that has been seen as double standards as opposed to the message in the movie.
Besides, the second reason why the movie is on Chinese radar is because it was shot and filmed Northwest China, in a publicity department of CPC Xinjiang uyghur autonomous region committee in the credits.
Locals report that this is the place where the cultural genocide is happening. They filmed extensively in Xinjiang, which the subtitles call “Northwest China”
