Kenyan events organiser Chris Kirwa has stepped into the spotlight to clarify the controversy surrounding Ferdinand Omanyala and American streamer IShowSpeed. The sprinter faced criticism online after declining a spontaneous race with the globally popular influencer. Many fans assumed Omanyala was missing an opportunity for publicity, but Kirwa offered a detailed account that sheds light on the broader context.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Kirwa explained that Omanyala’s day was fully committed to supporting rising tennis star Angela Okutoi at Parklands Sports Club. From morning until dusk, the sprinter remained at the venue, honouring a commitment that reflected mutual respect between elite athletes. Kirwa emphasised that this was not a casual appearance, but a deliberate act of solidarity and encouragement.

Kirwa stressed the importance of understanding athlete priorities. He highlighted that Omanyala is more than a viral attraction; he is a professional with obligations, long-term goals, and strategic decisions to make. “For me, I think he’s more value than going to run with Speed,” Kirwa said, underlining that elite athletes should not always be expected to perform on demand.

Kirwa also highlighted the reciprocal support between Omanyala and Okutoi. He noted that whenever Omanyala competes in sprints, Okutoi and her tennis community attend to cheer him on. This relationship, Kirwa argued, shows that their actions are driven by respect and shared understanding, not publicity.

He addressed the public backlash directly, calling it disproportionate. “Let’s give the guys breathing space,” Kirwa said, stressing that Omanyala needed the freedom to make decisions in his best interest. He also noted that both athletes are preparing for the Olympics, making focus and preparation a higher priority than viral opportunities.

Kirwa’s intervention reframes the narrative. Instead of seeing Omanyala as snubbing a race, Kirwa positioned him as a disciplined athlete supporting fellow sportspeople while managing professional commitments. His insights underline the pressures athletes face and the importance of context before rushing to judgment.

Through his explanation, Kirwa emphasised athlete solidarity, professional focus, and the need for public understanding. His account offers clarity on Omanyala’s actions and reminds fans that elite sports figures make choices that balance personal commitments with national and international responsibilities.
