Daystar University has reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of Professor Laban Ayiro, extending his tenure as Vice-Chancellor for another five years. The announcement came through a statement posted on Prof Ayiro’s Facebook page, where he expressed gratitude to the Board of Trustees and the University Council for their trust and support.

“Daystar University has re-appointed me for another period of five years with effect from March 1, 2024. It’s a heavy responsibility, which again is far beyond my talents, and I beseech God to go before me in shepherding Daystar University as part of His Kingdom,” shared Prof Ayiro.
The renowned educator called upon the entire Daystar community, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and the wider global community, to rally behind him in propelling the university towards a flourishing future.
Prof Ayiro outlined his vision for the institution, emphasizing a focus on addressing the needs and aspirations of all stakeholders. He stressed the importance of responding to the “wonder, worry, and wishes” of the community, which would guide the development of state-of-the-art facilities, the delivery of quality education, and the cultivation of impactful graduates grounded in a strong sense of social and spiritual responsibility.
Intellectual, social, and spiritual formation will remain central to Daystar’s ethos under Prof Ayiro’s leadership, shaping the university’s character and substance in the years to come.
Prof Ayiro’s journey to leadership has not been without challenges. Initially appointed Vice-Chancellor of Moi University in 2016, he faced opposition from some North Rift leaders, which eventually led to his departure. However, his subsequent appointment at Daystar University in 2019 and subsequent recognition as the Best Vice Chancellor in Kenya at the Uongozi Awards underscored his effectiveness as a leader.
Reflecting on past tribulations, locals have since expressed regret over their initial opposition, acknowledging Prof Ayiro’s leadership merits and issuing a formal apology for the tribal witch-hunt he endured.
