The deputy Governor of Tharaka Nithi was robbed a 3.5 million shillings after making a sell on land by his close bodyguard.
The incident happened on Wednesday where Dr Eliud Murithi Mate was forced to surrender the cash at gunpoint by his bodyguard at his home at Kinoru Estate in Meru County.
The Administration Police guard, Constable Josphat Kipyegon is alleged to have caused a commotion by threatening to shoot the government official before fleeing off with the cash stashed in a bag.
“From the information we have is that the officer escaped on a motorbike. We have set up road blocks on all roads leading to Meru to nab the suspect. We have also involved the flying squad who are on his pursuit,”Marimati Ap Camp area police boss Sammy Kosgey said.
