A Piper Malibu which was headed to Cardiff from Nantes on 22nd January, went missing and after days of searching, remains of Emiliano Sala were found trapped inside.
His death was officially confirmed on 8th February 2019 by both clubs, Nantes and Cardiff City.
Cardiff City had signed the Argentine striker Emiliano Sala from Nantes for a huge club-record fee of £15 million during the January transfer window.
His pilot is yet to be found.
- Emiliano Raúl Sala Taffarel was born in Cululu, Santa Fe, Argentina, although he is of Italian descent.
- He started playing soccer at the age of 15 years, at San Martín de Progreso before switching to San Francisco, Córdoba to play at a football school called Proyecto Crecer
- In 2012 he joined FC Girondins Bordeaux in France and made his debut for the club in 2012 at the age of 22.
- It followed a loan at Championnat National side Orléans, Ligue 2 side Niort and then Ligue one side Caen
- After signing for Nantes in 2015, he made over 100 appearances in Ligue 1 and scored 42 goals.
- In 2018/2019, Salah had scored 12 goals, and he was among the best with Kylian Mbappé and Nicolas Pepe who have 14 and 13 respectively.
- He made a rare record at Nantes, he was the first player to score a hat trick at the club since Mamadou Diallo’s against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard 13 years ago (2006).
- His desire to play in EPL saw him reject playing in Chinese Super League famed for money
- Salah had never played for his national team, Argentina.
- He rejected a chance to joining Turkish Giants, Galatasaray in last summer
