Kenyan gospel artist Willis Andabwa, better known by his stage name Ole Willy, has expanded his influence beyond music, making a profound impact in Africa through his humanitarian efforts. The singer, known for hits like Maskio Ya Mungu and Hafungi Macho, recently shared with TUKO.co.ke the details of his mission to spread hope and empowerment across the continent, focusing on areas that are struggling with conflict and poverty.

Ole Willy’s Mission in DR Congo

While Ole Willy is best known for his music, he has found a new calling in combining spiritual guidance with humanitarian aid. His recent mission took him to Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) and Rwanda, where he worked with local communities to provide support in areas suffering from conflict.

During his time in DR Congo, Ole Willy distributed blankets to displaced individuals and families who had been impacted by the ongoing conflict, which, according to the United Nations, has led to one of the largest internal displacement crises in the world, with 6.9 million people displaced.

Ole Willy shared the motivation behind his mission, stating, “The mission was born from my faith and a desire to uplift others. I felt called to use my influence to empower the youth in leadership, decision-making, and spiritual growth.” His efforts have not only provided immediate relief but also aimed to inspire long-term change in these communities.

Overcoming Challenges in Conflict Zones

Despite the logistical challenges and the difficulties of working in conflict-prone areas, Ole Willy remains determined to continue his work. He spoke candidly about the hurdles he faced, noting, “We’ve struggled with logistics while trying to provide basic needs like food and medicine. But through faith and partnerships, we’ve been able to make a small but meaningful impact.”

His humanitarian mission has now extended to other African countries such as Eswatini, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe. The gospel singer is passionate about training young missionaries across the continent, with plans to help empower young people to become leaders and make a positive impact in their communities.

Ole Willy’s Evolving Role as an Artist

Beyond his humanitarian work, Ole Willy’s role as an artist has evolved. He admitted that his philanthropic efforts have reshaped his outlook on life and his approach to music. “I now use my talent as a tool for healing, guidance, and change, especially among young people in crisis,” he explained.

While Ole Willy has stepped back from the recording studio, he is still very much involved in the music scene, collaborating with artists from across Africa. He has embraced the diverse sounds and rhythms of the continent, and his current project aims to produce 200 gospel-infused songs with 10 regional artists by 2026. This initiative focuses on evangelism and cultural connection, reinforcing his belief in the power of music to unite and uplift.

A Message of Hope and Faith

As he continues to navigate both his music career and his humanitarian efforts, Ole Willy offered a heartfelt message to his supporters: “Thank you for walking with me. Let’s continue seeking God’s direction in our lives. Real change starts with purpose, service, and faith.” His mission has not only made a tangible difference in the lives of many but has also deepened his commitment to using his platform for good.

With his humanitarian work taking center stage, Ole Willy remains committed to his vision of blending music and ministry. “My passion for blending music and ministry is stronger than ever. Wherever God leads next, I’ll be ready,” he concluded.

Ole Willy’s journey is an inspiring testament to the power of faith and music to bring about real change. As he continues his mission, both in Africa and beyond, his work serves as a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on the world.
