Eric Omondi and Willy Paul had planned a Valentine’s Day concert for Nairobi residents, but the event was cancelled at the last minute. The concert, which was scheduled for February 14 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), had been in preparation for three months and had cost over KSh 21 million in investments.

Eric Omondi shared a video from the venue, showing that everything had been set up before law enforcement officers arrived with orders to cancel the event. According to the comedian, the police did not provide a clear reason for stopping the show, only stating that the directive came from higher authorities. He also revealed that their request for 50 officers to provide security for the concert had been denied. He suggested that the cancellation was linked to his outspoken criticism of President William Ruto’s government rather than security concerns.

In his statement, Eric expressed frustration over the loss of time, effort, and financial resources that had gone into organizing the event. He questioned why local entertainers were being hindered and stated that Willy Paul had invested his life savings in the concert.

The cancellation of the event led to public outrage, with many Kenyans expressing their disappointment on social media. Several artists and fans criticized the government for failing to support the entertainment industry. Some argued that the decision was politically motivated and called for greater support for local talent.

Despite the setback, Eric Omondi later announced that the event would still take place at a different location, Expressway Lounge. He assured fans that the concert would proceed despite the last-minute challenges.

Eric Omondi has been an outspoken critic of the government and previously gave President William Ruto a performance rating of two out of ten. He argued that the administration’s priorities were misplaced and that more attention should be given to addressing issues such as food security and employment rather than affordable housing.

As discussions surrounding the cancelled concert continue, it remains unclear whether Eric Omondi and Willy Paul will receive any explanation or compensation. The comedian has vowed to continue speaking out on governance issues and advocating for change.
