Legendary gospel singer Caroline Omwaya, popularly known as Nyar Kanaan, has received a lifeline from Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi. Omondi announced plans to help Omwaya rebuild her life after learning of the challenges she has been facing.
Eric Omondi visited Omwaya at her home in Homa Bay County, where he was warmly welcomed. He described her as a living legend whose music blessed many across Migori, Kisumu, Siaya, and Homa Bay. Omondi emphasized that Omwaya needs support to regain stability and dignity.
Through his Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative, Omondi outlined a two-pronged plan: he intends to organize a comeback concert for Nyar Kanaan in Kisumu and lead efforts to build a decent home for her. He also shared her M-Pesa number, 0702 105 913, urging Kenyans to contribute. “This woman is a living legend. Our mum blessed us since we were kids. But now she really needs our help. Things have not been well for her, and we are going to get her back on her feet. We are going to build her small, beautiful house. I am also organizing a Comeback Concert for her in Kisumu. She deserves it. She blessed us; it’s our turn to bless her. Send whatever you can to her number 0702 105 913,” Omondi wrote.
Caroline Omwaya rose to fame in the 1990s and early 2000s with her Luo gospel songs that touched lives across Kenya. Fans have supported her sporadically on social media, but her current situation highlighted the need for more substantial help.
Fans have responded positively to Omondi’s call. Nelson Omondi said, “This one I am sending, her songs really lifted our spirits when we were young. Be blessed, Nyar Canaan.” Steven Ouma Owiti added, “Thanks, Ericco. This is a great gesture. I remember this mum very well, I had a collection of all her cassettes, even though they were accredited to her church.” Tim Oscar shared, “Her songs played a big role when we were mourning our lovely dad in 1998. The song gave us the strength to move forward.”
